Wordless Wednesday - Brynnleigh's First School Picture

We got Brynnleigh's first every school picture proofs in yesterday and I must say that I am in love!  This is a cruddy cell phone picture of a printed proof picture, but it's too cute not to share!

I hope to find O's first school picture and post them side by side, but that will be another day.  If my memory serves me right, I think his head and hands are in the same exact position as hers.  I'm sorry I have been MIA lately.  We've been a bit busy and my brother, sister in law and niece are in town this week so we have been hanging out with them as much as possibe.  I promise to be back at it next week!

Wordless Wednesday - Mario Kart Goodie Bags!

FYI - this is far from Wordless! ; )

I'm pretty sure I've mentioned this on here before...but I have a tendency to go a bit crazy on party goodie bags...they are just so much fun!  I want as much as possible included in the goodie bag to coordinate with the party theme (yep, I'm a dork).

So, when O changed his mind from Angry Birds, to Superhero, to Mario Kart, my mind started exploring!  I am sooo excited to be able to be a bit more creative!  So, lets unveil Owen's goodie bag contents...and for those of you who are attending, stop reading now! ; )

The bags are just plain red goodie bags, I thought about sealing with a Mario Kart sticker, but round labels are just plain expensive so I passed!  It's just going to get ripped, so no need to waste the money.

Inside each kid will find:
Mario Kart Note Pad
Mario Pencil

Mario Kart Stickers
The note pads, pencils, and stickers all came from Party City (oh and the goodie bags too).

Then I added Star erasers, chocolate coins, and checkered flags from Oriental Trading Company.

I also got some little hot wheels finisher medals on clearance at Party City for $0.50 for 24.  I was thinking about covering up the picture with a round label with a Mario Kart picture, but once again, the labels are expensive, and I'm not sure the kids would keep the medals anyways.  It may still happen, I tend to change my mind last minute and add more work to myself! ; )
I always like to throw in a few edible items too so we have Super Mario Fruit snacks and my favorite item of them all, chocolate mustache suckers, because it's not a Mario party without a mustache!

I think we did a pretty good job trying to incorporate the game into every single item.  We do have random silly straws to throw in as well, and who knows what else I've picked up that I forgot about!  I think the only thing we are missing is the "kart", the characters, and the objects they throw (bomb, banana peel, turtle shell).  Don't think I didn't look (runts for bananas) but I did not want to spend more on the goodie bags than the party, nor did I think the parents would want me giving their kids fake bomb goodies!

So tonight, I am assembling goodie bags.....who wants to come over and help?

Wordless Wednesday - Owen the Baller

Owen is now playing basketball for the first time ever....

I wasn't sure that he would really enjoy this sport since he had never really played much, and did not know much about the concept.

But, I was wrong....he LOVES it, every second of it actually.  These are pictures from his very first game, which he got 6 points (FYI, that's more than I got my 1 year playing for our high school!)

He does have a lot of practice to do as far as getting his form together, but he 100% understands the point and concept of the game.  He loves to run back on defense, and is pretty good at getting his hands up.  He does get a bit excited and will leave his man, to go mark the man with the ball, but he's getting there.

Since O is 5, we did not have a lot of options for basketball leagues.  We decided to try the Upward league which I was a bit skeptical about.

Upward is a great league.  If anyone is debating, I would highly recommend.  It is so organized and everyone has a positive outlook.  It is a religious based program (which to some will be good and to others bad) but it is a great mix between religion and sports.  The sports part of the program is not second fiddle.

We will definitely participate in Upward again.  Brynnleigh may even want to be a cheerleader (yes, leave it to me to have a child who wants to be a cheerleader) at some point.  She loves to watch them at half time of O's game.

So there you have it, the first game debut of our upcoming sports star!  (O also plays soccer and t-ball)

Jump Rope For Heart

Owen's school is participating in Jump Rope For Heart and have asked the kids to help fundraise to help out The American Heart Association.  Of course the fundraising was optional, but O was all about it.

He immediately told me he wanted to raise money, and he wanted to raise $1,000.  Don't hold yourself back there any O, reach for the stars!

I'm trying my best to show him how to fundraise and help him reach his goal.  I understand that times are tough for a lot of people but a little bit quickly adds up.  I realized that I have over 1,000 likes on my facebook page, which means if everyone gave just a $1, he would reach his goal.

Maybe instead of buying that $1.89 soda every day, you could set $1.00 aside for a charity and save the $.89 for yourself.

O has to turn his money in next week 2/22, but he's working hard.  We've made phone calls, typed and personally signed letters, and now, he's going the social media way...

We figured if kids could use FB to get puppies and other things, why couldn't you use it to help raise money for a good cause?  I know giving someone a like is easier than giving up $1, but your $1, will go a lot further than a like!

So, if anyone would like to make a donation to O's fundraising page we would greatly appreciate it.  Just go to http://jumpmaa.kintera.org/owenthecandyman

If you just can't spare that $1 (and I do understand) then please share O's picture on facebook, maybe it will reach someone who can donate.

Thanks in advance!

Emmy Rossum - Sentimental Journey CD Review

Sentimental Journey by Emmy Rossum was released on January 29, 2013 and includes 12 great tracks:

“Sentimental Journey” (Les Brown, Ben Homer, Arthur Green)
“The Object Of My Affection” (Pinky Tomlin)
“I’m Looking Over A Four Leaf Clover “(Mort Dixon, Harry M. Woods)
“These Foolish Things (Remind Me Of You)” (Eric Maschwitz, Jack Strachey)
“(I’ll Be With You) In Apple Blossom Time” (Albert Von Tilzer, Neville Fleeson)
“Summer Wind” (Heinz Meier, Johnny Mercer)
“Many Tears Ago” (Winfield Scott)
“All I Do Is Dream Of You” (Nacio Herb Brown, Arthur Freed)
“Nobody Knows You When You’re Down And Out” (Jimmy Cox)
“Autumn Leaves” (Joseph Kosma, Jacques PrĂ©vert)
“Things” (Bobby Darin)
“Pretty Paper” (Willie Nelson)

12 tracks on one album is not uncommon, but Rossum has designated each track for each of the 12 months respectively.

"Each song needed to either lyrically or emotionally reflect the corresponding month," Emmy explained. "Some songs were obvious fits, like Summer Wind for June, and Pretty Paper for December. Others songs were less literal fits. I chose Nobody Knows You (When You're Down and Out) for September because, to me, the plaintive melody and lyric emotionally reflect the cold weather creeping in and the sense of melancholy we can get in the fall months."

Rossum is also an acclaimed actress who currently stars in the Showtime series Shameless with William H. Macy. She also stars alongside Emma Thompson and Viola Davis in the upcoming feature film Beautiful Creatures, which hits theaters on February 13th.

You can also catch Rossum on the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson on Wednesday February 6th.

I thoroughly enjoyed this album.  My first thought was that it sounded a lot like Nora Jones and is very relaxing.  It's a great collection of classic covers from way before my time!  I like that the songs remain in their classic form, this is a great way to introduce this genre to younger generations.

My favorite tracks are The Object of My Affection which is a bit quicker and just gets you jiving and smiling and Things, which takes me to the 60's and just makes me happy.  The only song I recognized was Pretty Paper and I loved Rossum's version of this song.

Take a listen for yourself and see what you think (These Foolish Things):

Love it?  You can purchase it through Amazon and iTunes.  Want even more insight?  Then follow Rossum on Twitter.
