Saving Christmas with Kirk Cameron - Movie Review

I grew up watching Kirk Cameron on Growing Pains so to this day I get excited when I see his name on anything.  Imagine my surprise to do a pre-screening of the movie Saving Christmas.  I was even able to participate in a live teleconference with Kirk Cameron, but unfortunately I had Brynnleigh's Parent/Teacher Conference at the same time.

About the movie:
This Christmas, have your family join with Kirk Cameron’s family and dive headfirst into all the joy, dancing, celebration, feasting, imagination, and traditions that glorify the true “reason for the season.” KIRK CAMERON’S SAVING CHRISTMAS is an engaging story that provides a biblical basis for our time-honored traditions and celebrations, and the inspiration to stand strongly against a culture that wants to trivialize and eliminate the faith elements of this holy season. So take in the splendor; take in the majesty; take in the story. Take it all in… and let’s put Christ back in Christmas! KIRK CAMERON’S SAVING CHRISTMAS is in theaters for a limited engagement beginning November 14 for two weeks only!

My Review:
I had not seen the trailer for this movie so I really did not know what to expect.  I got worried in the beginning as it started with Kirk Cameron sitting in front of the fireplace talking about Christmas - I was worried that was going to be the whole movie - listening to him talk.  I as glad I was wrong!  I don't mind listening to Kirk talk, but I wouldn't want to pay movie theater prices to do so.  : )

It did go into the movie which took place in the home of Kirk's sister during her annual Christmas party.  Everyone was having fun and enjoying themselves except for the sister's husband - he had run off to get away from the madness.  Kirk locates him and they discuss what was wrong.  Turns out, the brother-in-law, Christian was upset that people had lost the real meaning of Christmas and their focus was on things other than items from the bible.  He mentioned Christmas trees, Santa Claus, materialism and more. It was very interesting to see Kirk relate it all back to the bible and how it really does work.

I do not want to give it all away but I was shocked at how well it all fits together and does relate back to that first "Christmas story."  I was actually shocked at how Kirk was for enjoying and celebrating the Christmas holiday as we see it now since he is so liberal with his religion.

I am not sure that I would want to pay to see this in the theaters but I did take a lot away from this movie and think it will do great once it is on DVD.

Wordless Wednesday - American Babies!

We hope everyone had a great Memorial Day and weekend.  We had a great weekend that was spent 90% with just us 4!!  It was WONDERFUL not to have to be at 500 places in 10 minutes!

These pictures were taken during Brynnleigh's SnapMe Swimwear photo shoot a few weekends ago...but I saved them for today since they had the flag.  My kids LOVE the American flag, which makes me happy!

A huge Thank You to all those who have served, are serving, and will serve.  We appreciate all that you do, and your sacrifice!

Wordless Wednesday - 4 Generations

This was taken on Sunday, Mother's Day (and my Dad's Birthday)....I know I will cherish this picture for many years to come!  I am so lucky that I get to see my Mom almost every day, and my grandmother often as well.

Wordless Wednesday - Happy Birthday to Me!

Yesterday (Tuesday) was my birthday, and on Monday evening we celebrated with my parents.  Owen was so excited to put the candles on the cake, and insisted on putting 34 candles on the cake!!  Which I'm not sure WHY he wanted 34 candles since it was only my 21st Birthday!  hee hee.

Somehow the candles over took the cake, which of course Troy made sure to post on FB for all to see just how old I was.

Owen and Brynnleigh could not wait to blow out the candles...and luckily I was able to snap these next two pictures which look like B is throwing fire from her fingers and O is breathing fire!

My favorite part about my birthday - was watching how excited my babies were to celebrate my birthday...you would think it was their birthday!  I love these two munchkins so much!!

Wordless Wednesday - Merry Easter

So, this past Sunday, you know, exactly one week before Easter, we were granted a beautiful snow storm.

I won't lie, I'm a snow junkie, I LOVE the stuff, and so do the kids, but these following pictures just don't seem right.

Don't worry, our snowman did have a nice carrot nose, but it looks like he shared his nose with a friendly furry creature sometime during the night!

My little Easter bunny was very happy in the snow though, I think he would prefer the snow over the spring!

It would make Easter egg hunts a lot more fun, if you ask me!

These two, well they appear to be the best of friends...

And Mr. Bunny is loving every second of this snow!

So.....from our house to yours, Merry Easter!

Wordless Wednesday - Happy St. Patricks Day!

We typically do not do anything special for St. Patrick's Day other than the green and pinches but this year I found a super easy punch that I decided to make for the kids.

They LOVED their Leprechaun punch....which is lime sherbet and sprite....or, if you wait until the day of St. Patrick's Day it is the lime part of the rainbow sherbet and sprite! ; )

Owen and I attempted to make some shamrock cookies...until I realized the 100+ cookie cutter set I had did not have one single St. Patrick's Day cutter!!  O was very happy to make check marks (7's), X's, and question mark cookies with green sprinkles!

The rest of the day we hung out and played, nothing fancy, but lots of fun! O played with his Lego's most of the afternoon...

and Brynnleigh tormented her brother by stealing his Lego men and running around the house!  We did take a 5 minute break for some 80's hair photo ops!  Her hair is getting so long and I (well a normal person anyways, I'm HORRIBLE with hair) can finally do something with it!

We hope everyone had a great St. Patrick's Day Sunday!!!

Wordless Wednesday - Troy vs. Nana

I'm pretty sure Troy won this battle, but no worries, Nana will come back with something.  Anytime Troy picks on (my) Nana, she calls him Roy...I love it!

I'm not sure which one of them enjoys their teasing more!

Don't worry, Nana did get some extra cuddles too!

Christmas 2012 Continued

Back to our crazy...but fun Christmas day....

After we did Santa and gifts from us at our house, we headed over to Troy's parents' house to do Christmas with them.

Owen was so excited to give MeeMaw and PawPaw the presents he had picked out for each of them.  He got MeeMaw some cookie cutters, and of course she loved them!

Then it was PawPaw's turn, and this was the gift that O was the most excited about....he just knew that PawPaw would love the frame that he got him with a picture of a boy and a man together...

Yes, that is correct, the frame says "Daddy".  We thought about putting a piece of paper beside it that said "Grand", but O was so happy/excited, we decided to leave it!  Each year I can't wait to see what O has bought for everyone, it's soo cute!!

Owen also got his Uncle Todd an Angry Bird hat....which little did he know that he would get a matching one.  He couldn't wait to take this picture with their matching hats!

This year for O (5 years old) was so much fun, he was generally excited for everyone.  He handed out the gifts and wanted to see just what everyone got.  I love this little picture of him!

I promise Brynnleigh was with us....she just wasn't into the whole present thing.  She just didn't like unwrapping, she wanted the gifts just handed to her.  We did try to have some fun while unwrapping!

We left MeeMaw & PawPaw's and headed over to Missy & Papa's house to do a quick Christmas with them before the family headed over.

O was so excited to get his new Hess vehicle for the year!

Brynnleigh needed a little help, but she quickly started realizing why she should unwrap her presents....Missy helped her get started.

They both got a total of 3 stockings, one at each of the houses....they truly are spoiled kids!

B got a Doc McStuffins doctor kit from Santa, and a note pad from Missy & Papa...she was diagnosing everyone and making sure to document everything!

Then my extended family came over and we ate, laughed and opened more presents!!  Afterwards, we headed back to Troy's parents house to do dinner with his extended family.  Unfortunately most of them had gotten sick, so we just exchanged presents with the kids and ate dinner.  I do have pictures, but it involves other kids, and I don't want to post without their permission!

We had a fabulous Christmas and I loved every second spent with family!

Santa Came!! Christmas 2012

Christmas is by far one of my favorite holidays....not because of the presents, but because it's a whole day spent with my family! We are so lucky that we can see both of our families on the same day, and we don't have to juggle our time.  We also, don't have to open any presents before or after Christmas - it's just a perfect perfect day!

Here is our schedule on Christmas morning:

  • 7 am - Wake kids up and go see what Santa brought & open gifts from Mom & Dad
  • 9 am - Head to Troy's parents house to do Christmas with them
  • 11 am - Head to my parents house to do Christmas with them
  • 1 pm - My extended family starts to arrive at my parents to do Christmas with each other
  • 5 pm - Head to Troy's extended family (location changes each year) to do Christmas with them
  • 8-9 pm - Home to get kids in bed and do Christmas for Troy & I alone
Every single second is spent with family and I would do it every day if I could!

And now....a few pictures from our fun day...

Santa went a bit overboard, as always!

Granny, Brynnleigh, & Owen patiently waiting

O was so excited for his Mega Loop Mayhem

B & Her Doc McStuffins Dr. Kit

So excited - he is OBSESSED with Mario Kart!

Owen realized after about 5 minutes that Santa had brought his 3DS (or GPS as he kept calling it) - he was a bit excited!!  Oh, and don't worry - Mario Kart was preloaded!
Who needs a check up?
Owen asks Granny to spend the night every Christmas Eve, and I'm not sure who enjoys it more...

O also got his scooter w/out training wheels that he asked for.  (He had a 3-wheel scooter & when we took the training wheels off his bike, he said he needed them off his scooter too!)

Daddy had to test it out!

"Bawbie"
Brynnleigh got a baby set, which included a high chair, stroller, and pack and play...she may have gotten a bit confused...

Then we needed to open the gifts to the kids from Mom & Dad....and we may have gone a bit too overboard (word of the holiday right?) - at least 98% of these were clothes...

Owen got excited over everything...even underwear...he was soo much fun this year!

Brynnleigh was more into playing with her Santa "pwesents" than opening her gifts from us, so we just left them and she opened them later that night.

We then got dressed and ready to head to MeeMaw & PawPaw's.

More pictures to come from MeeMaw/PawPaw's house and Missy/Papa's house!!
